Holiday Giving – Playing Santa Year Round

Holiday Giving

Christmas is a worldwide cultural and commercial season observed by many regardless of their religious origins. For two thousand years, people around the world have celebrated Christmas with traditions that are individual to them, and their families. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, and sharing meals with family and friends. In addition, of course, there is the waiting for Santa Claus to arrive.

Santa Claus is the person who makes our wishes come true. Be good, and Santa will bring you that toy, that bauble, that thing that you most desire. And, if you are really lucky – those things that you most desire! What a wonderful concept and tradition.

So, in keeping with tradition, we’d like to present our Christmas wish list and invite you to participate in our tradition of playing Santa year round.

(Here’s a great article by the History Channel on the History of Christmas if you’d like to do a deep dive into the history of Christmas.)

Holiday Wishes

We wish everyone

  1. has enough clothing to keep them warm,
  2. has access to a hot meal, and
  3. lives in a community that cares for them.
  4. We also wish our earth begins to heal.

Playing Santa – Warm Clothing

We have been collecting donations of used clothing and new essentials at our Vancouver since October 3rd. We will distribute these donations to our binner clients at a BBQ we are holding for them on Dec 17th. The response has been terrific and we are excited to be sharing the haul! This is the second year of our Gift of Warmth program, and we are grateful for everyone in our community for your support. Thank you all!

Our clothing donations are piling up! We’re so excited by the amount of clothing and items provided by our community!

A Hot Meal

Our BBQ for our binner clients is Dec 17th. Supported by Pacific Metals, we will provide our binner community with a hot meal and the opportunity to “shop” the donated items. If you would like to play Santa with us, we welcome you to bring your donations and join us on Dec 17th.

Our Tradition of Giving – Part of the Community

We practice the tradition of giving year round. Throughout the year we have donation bins in all of our depot that collect beverage containers for our monthly charitable causes. Some examples of this are Zajac RanchFort MacMurray fire victims & supporting the REACH CHILD AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY . We also have donation bins in our depot parking lots that support DDA and other local charities year round. If you know of a worthy cause that would like some help with their fundraising, send them our way!

Our bottle drive programs not only provide cash to organizations who collect beverage containers and return them to us, we also add to the totals. We’re one of the few bottle depots that provide full refunds for beverage containers, which adds up. And that is not all, our bottle drive contests add cash to our bottle drive contest winners earnings!

Healing the Earth – and making it easy for you to do it too!

The Lotzkar family that owns Regional Recycling has been involved in recycling for over 100 years. We have a strong tradition of keeping items that can be recycled out of landfills, and therefore helping the earth heal. Over the years the types of items that we collect and recycle has grown to include almost every possible item that can be recycled. Our motto: “your one stop recycling shop” is more than a saying; it is our promise to you.

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy holiday season! We look forward to seeing you!
