2015 Earth Day Celebrations:
Earth Day broadens the base of support for environmental programs, rekindles public commitment and builds community activism around the world through a broad range of events and activities. Earth Day is the largest civic event in the world, celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities. More than a billion people participate in campaigns every year.
Regional Recycling celebrated Earth Day on April 25th, 2015 at our Burnaby location, welcoming the public to join us for Depot tours, a free organic BBQ, kids activities and more. The goal of the day was to increase recycling awareness – knowledge of what can be recycled.
Joined by several businesses and organizations who are also devoted to touching the earth lightly and support the community we hosted approx. 500 people, kids of all ages.
We were joined by a number of our partner businesses – businesses whose mission and vision are compatible with our own, and who work to better the communities in which we live. Our support of Developmental Disabilities Association includes having their donation bins at every depot so you can recycle your clothing for a good cause. We have partnered with Mission Possible in order to provide you with household pickup of your recycling and the fee paid to Mission Possible supports their programs. And, we have ordered our organic groceries through a local organic food delivery company whose mission includes reducing carbon emissions caused by driving to get your groceries.
We’d like to introduce you to these amazing organizations:

Manned by Kelly (Abbotsford Depot Manager) and Luu (Vancouver Depot Manager) our organic BBQ was a big hit! Featuring Hills beef hot dogs and veggie dogs (purchased through Green Earth Organics) we kept our cooking team busy for the whole day. Our guests could not get over how wonderful everything tasted!
Our guests, young and old enjoyed our crafts table that included coloring, stickers, and decorating 100% biodegradable coconut fiber pots to plant flowers.
It is hard to tell which of our activities was the most popular! Our depot tour guide was kept busy all day touring people through the depot, showing people what happens to their items when they bring them into the Recycling Depot.
What’s an event without some face painting? Our face painter Dana was busy from setup to tear down, and did a fantastic job! Her work was just beautiful.
Where does it go? Video Presentations
Our “Where does it go?” Video Presentations produced by Creative Inventory and other recycling stewardships played on equipment from Connected Spaces was also a huge hit. It showed how different items get recycled and what they turn into – closing the loop!
Free Recycling Boxes
We also provided all of our guests with free small electronics recycling boxes that make it easy to collect all of those small recyclables around your home.
Thank you again to everyone for making our event such a huge success! We look forward to seeing you all at our next ones in Richmond (June 6th, 2015) and Cloverdale (June 7th, 2015).
