Regional Recycling Donation Bins
Did you ever wonder what good donating your beverage containers does? Wonder how much is actually raised for our partner organizations?
We did too, so pulled a little report and you know what? You’re the best!!!
Thanks to your donations, we raised $ 38,861.64 for our donation partners in 2018.
Each of our 8 Regional Recycling locations has a donation bin / container inside the bottle depot where you can donate your empty bottles & beverage containers to a local organization. The full refund value of all of the containers is totaled up every month, and the full amount is donated to the designated charity partner. If you’d like to learn more about how to become one of our charity partners read our blog ‘Raising money for your charity‘
The organizations that primarily benefited from our donation bins were:
DDA – the Developmental Disabilities Association
The DDA is a not-for-profit organization that provides community living as well as programs and services to people with developmental disabilities and their families. They have an extended network of support services, invest in serving the needs of the individuals, and work to support an inclusive and safe community.
We’ve been proud to support the DDA for a long time, and have personally witnessed the difference their services make to the individuals they serve and their families. Every year the DDA serves over 1,800 individuals and families. Thank you for supporting them through your donations!
The Ocean Legacy Foundation
Although our relationship with the Ocean Legacy Foundation is not as mature as our one with the DDA, we are proud to have supported this important initiative!
Ocean Legacy is an international not-for-profit based in British Columbia. They use spatial mapping, public education and problem research, ocean clean-up expeditions and plastic to fuel technologies to develop world-leading solutions to marine debris.
Their approach combines sustainable technologies with education and training to collect ocean plastic waste and recycle it to give it economic value. Ultimately, this will provide communities with a long term solution and the tools they need to steward their environment.
Reach Child & Youth Development Society
The Reach Child and Youth Development Society is a non-profit organization that provides programs and services to children and their families in Delta, Surrey and Langley, B.C.
They offer a wide variety of services designed to meet the needs of children, helping to ensure their optimum development including providing services for children and youth with autism. They bring together professionals with expertise and knowledge in a number of areas including Early Childhood Educators, Speech-Language Pathologists, Behavioural Consultants, Supported Child Development Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Infant Development Consultants and others with extensive experience supporting families and children.
Their family-centered philosophy means that families determine the direction of Reach, and their programs and services are modified as the families’ needs change. Currently, Over 1000 children and their families benefit from their services on an annual basis.
Backpack Buddies
Backpack Buddies’ goal is to fill the weekend hunger gap that many of the children in Metro Vancouver face.
Every day, there are thousands of children in our communities who are going to school hungry. And, while school breakfast, lunch and snack programs actively address this crisis, weekends are a difficult time for many families.
That’s why Backpack Buddies provides a backpack of food on Friday afternoon. The packs are filled with food to provide meals and snacks for the weekend to ensure that the child returns to school on Monday morning fed and ready to learn.
In order to encourage the natural generosity of young people, they involve kids in the fundraising and volunteering activities.
From Backpack Buddies:
“Thank you so much for the donations we have received from your Regional Recycling Centres!
To date we have received an incredible $7,880.00 which has allowed us to inject another 788 backpacks of food into our program.
Since the beginning of the 2018/2019 school year we have been able to add 15 new recipient schools to our program – we expanded to Coquitlam for the first time, and have significantly increased in our reach in both the Burnaby and Surrey School Districts.
Your donations have played a big part in helping us achieve these milestones!!
Thank you again – your compassionate support truly makes a difference in the lives of the children we serve.”
Donation Bins help to support our community!
By donating your clean, empty beverage containers – beer bottles, liquor bottles, juice containers and every other container that has a deposit – you are helping to support local organizations who are supporting our communities. AND, you are keeping these containers out of landfills!
Isn’t that all worth the trip to the depot?
[…] Don’t care about the cash back? DONATE your containers to a local homeless person OR bring them in to our depots to drop in our monthly donation bins. […]
[…] Juice boxes can all be recycled, and you receive a deposit refund for all of them. How much you get back depends on the size of the box. The refunds range from 5 – 20 cents per container, so it can add up! If your family drinks a lot of juice you could be throwing money out the window if you don’t recycle these! The juice category includes things like drink pouches, larger juice cartons (gable tops) and the convenience-sized juice containers. Because you can break these items down or “smush” them into a smaller size it’s pretty easy to collect enough to make a trip to the recycle depot worth your while. Please remember to rinse the containers out to discourage pests and eliminate the smell. Don’t care about the cash back?
