2016 Environment Week Celebrations:
Canadian Environment Week is held during the first week of June to coincide with World Environment Day. To honor this week, we’d like to invite you to our Environment Week Celebrations!
Regional Recycling is celebrating Environment Week with 2 events.
On June 4th from 11AM to 3 PM we will be joining our partners and putting on a party at our RICHMOND Regional Recycling Bottle Depot! We welcome you to join us for Depot tours, a free organic BBQ, kids activities and more. The goal of the day is to have fun while increasing recycling awareness and knowledge of what can be recycled.
Then, on June 11th from 11AM to 3 PM, we will do it all again in our ABBOTSFORD Regional Recycling Bottle Depot!
Join us at one of these events! Bring your recycling and enter to Win a Bike!

Crafts
Our guests, young and old will enjoy our crafts tables that include coloring, stickers, and decorating 100% biodegradable coconut fiber pots to plant flowers.
Depot Tours
Our depot tours are always the hit of the day, showing you what happens to your items when you bring them into the Recycling Depot.

What’s an event without some face painting? Our face painter Dana is fantastic! Her work is just beautiful and the kids love her!
Where does it go? Video Presentations
Our “Where does it go?” Video Presentations produced by Creative Inventory and other recycling stewardships played on equipment from Connected Spaces was also a huge hit. It showed how different items get recycled and what they turn into – closing the loop!

Partner Businesses/Organizations:
We’ll be joined by a number of our partner businesses – businesses whose mission and vision are compatible with our own, and who work to better the communities in which we live. Our support of Developmental Disabilities Association includes having their donation bins at every depot so you can recycle your clothing for a good cause. We have partnered with Mission Possible in order to provide you with household pickup of your recycling and the fee paid to Mission Possible supports their programs.
Developmental Disabilities Association
The Developmental Disabilities Association is a community living agency that provides over 50 community-based programs and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families in Vancouver and Richmond. They create extended networks of support, invest in individual needs, and strive for an inclusive and safe community. Over 1,600 individuals and families in the Vancouver and Richmond area are serviced by the Developmental Disabilities Association every year.
Mission: To enable people with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential.
Values: To pursue our mission with expertise, integrity, respect, and conviction.
Mission Possible
For The Past 20 Years Mission Possible has walked alongside people challenged by homelessness and poverty. Every day they provide street-level care for those with immediate and critical needs as well as create jobs that build a bridge to stability through a variety of enterprising ventures. Mission Possible is helping people renew a sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work.
Their work can be summed up in these three words: People, Purpose, and Paycheque
We look forward to seeing you at one of our events! Remember to bring your recycling so you can enter to Win a Bike!
Did You Know?
The idea for Environment Week emerged in 1970, when former Prime Minister John Diefenbaker (PM from 1957-1963) noted the “tremendous energy, enthusiasm and initiative” of young people concerned about pollution. Diefenbaker approached the House of Commons with the concept of setting one week a year aside to focus on environmental issues.
Later that same year, Tom Goode, a Member of Parliament from British Columbia, pursued Diefenbaker’s idea by introducing a bill to designate a “Canadian National Pollution Awareness Week”. The bill was passed by the House based on considerable support from the public and all political parties. Royal Assent was given in March 1971. To draw attention to all aspects of a healthy environment, the name “Canadian National Environment Week” was chosen. (Source: Environment Canada 2014, About Environment Week section).
