2016 Earth Day Celebrations:
What are your plans for Earth Day 2016? How are you planning on celebrating our planet and all it provides? Earth Day broadens the base of support for environmental programs, rekindles public commitment and builds community activism around the world through a broad range of events and activities. Earth Day is the largest civic event in the world, celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities. More than a billion people participate in campaigns every year.
Regional Recycling is celebrating Earth Day at 2 events. On April 23rd we will be joining our partners at Surrey City hall for the huge Surrey Party 4 the Planet festivities! Come meet us there and enter to win a bike!
April 30th, 2016 at our Burnaby location we will be welcoming the public to join us for Depot tours, a free organic BBQ, kids activities and more. The goal of the day is to increase recycling awareness – knowledge of what can be recycled.
Partner Businesses/Organizations:
We’ll be joined by a number of our partner businesses – businesses whose mission and vision are compatible with our own, and who work to better the communities in which we live. Our support of Developmental Disabilities Association includes having their donation bins at every depot so you can recycle your clothing for a good cause. We have partnered with Mission Possible in order to provide you with household pickup of your recycling and the fee paid to Mission Possible supports their programs.
Developmental Disabilities Association
The Developmental Disabilities Association is a community living agency that provides over 50 community-based programs and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families in Vancouver and Richmond. They create extended networks of support, invest in individual needs, and strive for an inclusive and safe community. Over 1,600 individuals and families in the Vancouver and Richmond area are serviced by the Developmental Disabilities Association every year.
Mission: To enable people with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential.
Values: To pursue our mission with expertise, integrity, respect, and conviction.
Mission Possible
For The Past 20 Years Mission Possible has walked alongside people challenged by homelessness and poverty. Every day they provide street-level care for those with immediate and critical needs as well as create jobs that build a bridge to stability through a variety of enterprising ventures. Mission Possible is helping people renew a sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work.
Their work can be summed up in these three words: People, Purpose, and Paycheque
2016 Earth Day Activities:
BBQ
Our organic BBQs are always a big hit! Featuring Hills beef hot dogs and veggie dogs we’ll keep our cooking team busy for the whole day. You will not get over how wonderful everything tastes!
Crafts
Our guests, young and old will enjoy our crafts tables that include coloring, stickers, and decorating 100% biodegradable coconut fiber pots to plant flowers.
Depot Tours
Our depot tours are always the hit of the day, showing you what happens to your items when you bring them into the Recycling Depot.
Face Painting
What’s an event without some face painting? Our face painter Dana is fantastic! Her work is just beautiful and the kids love her!
Where does it go? Video Presentations
Our “Where does it go?” Video Presentations produced by Creative Inventory and other recycling stewardships played on equipment from Connected Spaces was also a huge hit. It showed how different items get recycled and what they turn into – closing the loop!
Free Recycling Boxes
We’ll also provided all of our guests with free small electronics recycling boxes that make it easy to collect all of those small recyclables around your home.
We look forward to seeing you all! REGISTER for 2016 Earth Day NOW
